Our Story
A Missouri Landmark Since 1929

The Original Big Chief Highway Hotel, circa 1929
Nearly a century later, the lights are still on.
Long before Route 66 became America's most famous highway, travelers stopped here looking for a good meal, a warm welcome, and a place to rest. Originally opened in 1929 as the Big Chief Highway Hotel along the original alignment of Route 66 in the historic community of Pond, Big Chief has remained a landmark for generations of locals, road trippers, and visitors discovering the Mother Road.
Today, we honor that legacy by writing the next chapter of Big Chief's story. From cocktails crafted with care to ingredients harvested from our 9,000-square-foot kitchen garden, every detail reflects our belief that great hospitality never goes out of style.
Whether you're joining us for dinner, gathering with friends on the patio, or discovering our hidden speakeasy, you're becoming part of a story that's been unfolding for nearly a century.

Worth Staying For
Food worth sharing. Cocktails worth savoring. Hospitality worth remembering.

Whether you're joining us after work, celebrating with family, or discovering us along Historic Route 66, every visit begins with thoughtfully prepared food and genuine hospitality.
Seasonal ingredients from our 9,000-square-foot kitchen garden inspire many of our dishes, while our bar serves everything from timeless classics to carefully crafted cocktails.
Come for dinner. Stay for another drink. Leave already planning your next visit.

Grown Steps Away
Over 9,000 square feet of ingredients harvested just steps from our kitchen.
Not everything can be grown in Missouri but whenever we can, we grow it ourselves.
Just behind Big Chief sits our 9,000-square-foot kitchen garden, where seasonal herbs, vegetables, and produce make their way from the soil to your plate.
It's one more way we honor the craftsmanship that has defined Big Chief for nearly a century.
The menu changes with the seasons, because nature does too.
